Microfiber is a synthetic fiber with a diameter of less than 1 denier (for reference, human hair is ~50–70 denier, silk is ~1.25 denier). In towel applications, microfiber fabric is typically polyester or polyester/nylon blend woven into a split-fiber structure that creates a vastly increased surface area per gram of material.

Microfiber in B2B Applications

ApplicationBenefitLimitation
Spa face clothsUltra-soft, removes makeupNot suitable for hot compresses
Gym towelsFast-dry, lightweightLess absorbent than terry
Pool/beach towelsFast-dry, compact storageLower durability than cotton
Housekeeping clothsTraps particles, no chemicalsMust wash separately from terry

Microfiber vs. Cotton for Bath Towels

Microfiber bath towels are not standard in hospitality procurement. Guest perception of microfiber as "cheap" and lower absorbency versus terry cloth make cotton ring-spun or combed cotton the standard for bath programs. Microfiber excels in specialty face cloth and housekeeping applications.
