Massage oils, body butters, and aromatherapy carriers bond to cotton fiber and accumulate through wash cycles. Untreated cotton develops a rancid smell and yellow staining within 40-60 cycles. Oil-release chemistry (typically a dual-action fluorocarbon-free finish applied post-weave) drops surface tension so oil rinses free in the first wash pass.

Look for finishes rated for C6 or fluorocarbon-free chemistry. C8 finishes are phased out of spa procurement due to PFAS concerns.
